Former LTA Officer Charged with Alleged Wrongful Retention of Documents under Official Secrets Act
On 7 December 2021, Tan Yong Liang, Benny (“Benny”) (陳勇良, 34-year-old male Singaporean) was charged in Court for an offence under the Official Secrets Act (Cap 213). At the material time, Benny was an Assistant Environmental Manager of the Land Transport Authority (“LTA”).
2. Between 20 November 2020 and 8 March 2021, Benny allegedly retained documents on his personal laptop which he had obtained owing to his position at LTA, when he had no right to retain the said documents after his last day of employment with the LTA. For his action, Benny will be charged with an offence under Section 5(1)(e)(iii) of the Official Secrets Act and punishable under Section 17(2) of the same Act.
