Addition works which do not add up
Procurement systems and processes are put in place to ensure fair competition from all bidding vendors. But when individuals circumvent these processes and seek benefits for themselves, a level playing field becomes impossible to achieve.
2. On 23 September 2015, one Soh Yew Meng, formerly a Director in the employment of Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd, and one Tan Siow Hui, a freelance quantity surveyor will be charged in Court for corruption offences.
3. Soh Yew Meng faces 4 counts of corruptly obtaining gratification and 3 counts of corruptly attempting to obtain gratification, amounting to at least $317,000. These were allegedly obtained from contractors as a reward for furthering their business interests in the form of Addition and Alteration projects with Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd, an offence punishable under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 241.
4. Tan Siow Hui will be charged for 6 counts of abetment by engaging in a conspiracy with Soh Yew Meng to corruptly receive or attempt in obtaining gratification from contractors as a reward to further their business interests with Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd, an offence punishable under Section 6(a) read with Section 29(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 241
5. Singapore adopts a zero tolerance approach towards corruption. The CPIB takes a serious view of any corrupt practices, and will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in such acts.
